The Pascagoula: Paradise in Peril

I spent the summer as a guest writer for the Sun-Herald newspaper on Mississippi's Gulf coast. My subject was the magnificent Pascagoula River, the largest free-flowing system in the lower 48 states. The newspaper is publishing my narrative in three parts as part of a special report.

John Fitzhugh, a photographer for the Sun-Herald, accompanied me on several of my river trips. This seven-minute video is part of a series I am producing that highlights good practices within journalism. .

I shot this video with a Sony DCR-TRV50 miniDV camera while reporting this summer on the Pascagoula River. I attached a Beachtek DXA-6 adapter and used professional-grade XLR microphones, along with a little shotgun mic that Sony sells for its consumer cameras. I used Apple's Final Cut Pro for editing.
