Pascagoula: Paradise in Peril
I spent the summer
as a guest writer for the Sun-Herald newspaper on Mississippi's Gulf coast.
My subject was the magnificent Pascagoula River, the largest free-flowing
system in the lower 48 states. The newspaper is publishing my narrative
in three parts as part of a special report.

Fitzhugh, a photographer for the Sun-Herald, accompanied me on several of
my river trips. This seven-minute video is part of a series I am producing
that highlights good practices within journalism. .
shot this video with a Sony DCR-TRV50 miniDV camera while reporting this
summer on the Pascagoula River. I attached a Beachtek DXA-6 adapter and
used professional-grade XLR microphones, along with a little shotgun mic
that Sony sells for its consumer cameras. I used Apple's Final Cut Pro for
free Quick Time player
My daughter, Sarah,
and I accompanied a team from First Presbyterian Church in Tuscaloosa in
March. This video documents the team's experiences.
